LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT/TRAFFIC INTERFACE AND SIGNAL PREEMPTION FOR CENTRAL FLORIDA/ORLANDO LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM PROJECT

This paper describes the light rail transit/traffic interface and signal operations plan developed for the Central Florida Light Rail Transit System (CFLRTS) project. The plan identifies how the LRT trains would operate with preferential treatment through signalized intersections along Sea Harbor Drive and International Drive, where LRT alignment will be at-grade within the street right-of-way. The plan is designed to meet the following two objectives: provide for the safe interface between LRT, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic, and improve the level of service for transit users by providing special treatment to LRVs without causing excessive delay to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
