ERG AND MOTOROLA: TO HELP DRIVE THE SMART CARD TRANSIT INDUSTRY
Transit operators in areas such as Hong Kong have recently implemented smart card solutions to streamline their transit operations in order to better serve their customers and increase their ridership. This article looks at some recent developments in smart card technology, such as the move toward multi-application smart cards that have expanded these benefits further. The goal of the new technology is the development of an innovative dual-interface contact/contactless smart card system which allows transit operators to offer its customers added value through the system's support of multi applications, such as fare payment, telecommunications, identification, access control among others.
