HIGHWAY RESEARCH PROJECTS IN THE UNITED STATES: RESULTS OF CENSUS

This bulletin contains a census of 479 research projects in highway engineering and highway transport, current or recently completed, in which are sought data upon which highways may be wisely selected, economically built to conform to the mechanics of the situation, and operated in the interests of the public. It includes projects in the following areas: economics, operation, road design, vehicle design, construction, and materials. Each description indicates the sources of current information and the fields of research that are not actively occupied, aiding intercommunication of research workers. Other sections of the bulletin provide the organizational structure of the National Research Council, the method of procedure for the Highway Research Census, a detailed outline of the fields of highway research, a table showing the number of projects in the different fields of highway research, technical and educational organizations and committees engaged in the field of highway research and technical development, and an index of organizations, listed alphabetically by state.
