SIMPLIFIED DYNAMIC RELIABILITY MODELS FOR HYDRAULIC DESIGN. DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE
A discussion of a technical note with the aforementioned title by S. Gui, R. Zhang, and J. Wu, published in this journal (Volume 124, Number 3, March 1998), is presented. The discussers present a brief summary of prliminary findings for a proposed levee project for the Red River of the North at East Grand Forks, Minnesota, and Grand Forks, North Dakota. The summary shows the effort made and the achievement obtained by the Army Corps of Engineers in the process of incorporating hydraulic and hydrologic uncertainties as well as the uncertainty in the stage-flood damage relationship for the designs of complicated levee projects. Discussion is followed by closure from the authors.
