UNCERTAINTY ANALYSIS IN RAILWAY SAFETY ASSESSMENT

Uncertainty is one of the most important concepts for safety assessment. This paper introduces uncertainty into the safety assessment of railroads. After discussion on the safety assessment framework of railroad safety, necessary categories of uncertainty are examined. A case study of an externally initiated accident sequence is the introduced in order to discuss the usefulness and difficulty of uncertainty for railroad safety.
