SULFATE RESISTANCE OF ROLLER COMPACTED CONCRETE. DISCUSSION

A discussion of a paper with the aforementioned title by N. Ghafoori and Z. Zhang, published in this journal (Volume 95, Number 4, July-August 1998), is presented. The discusser comments on the effect of varying the dry weight percentage of coarse aggregate from 45% to 60% on strength, absorption, density, and compactibility, as well as its effect on sulfate resistance, as presented by the authors. The discusser maintains that he has never previously encountered such clearcut evidence of the strength effect of varying the volumes of given-size coarse aggregate in mixes with equivalent cementitious material proportions.
