COMPOSITE MATERIALS FOR REHABILITATION OF CIVIL STRUCTURES AND SEISMIC APPLICATIONS

The TYFO Fibrwrap System was conceived in 1988 as an attractive alternative to conventional steel jackets used to reinforce concrete bridge columns. The System has undergone numerous structural tests to validate its use in providing ductility and shear strengthening to various structural elements. Resulting from the extensive testing has been approval of the Fibrwrap System by the City of Los Angeles and the California Department of Transportation for its use in seismic retrofit applications. Since its inception, the Fibrwrap System has been successfully installed on over 3500 structural elements worldwide, including two structures which performed as designed and withstood the 1997 Northridge Earthquake. The System is currently used to strengthen columns, slabs, beams, and walls to improve seismic performance and load carrying capacity.
