SESSION 3. PROTECTION OF VEHICLE OCCUPANTS
SESSION 3 PROTECTION DES OCCUPANTS
A number of statutory provisions have been adopted within the EEC. The author thinks they are now obsolete and that priority should be given to : (1) the retrospective examination of existing standards and the correction of errors they contain. It is necessary to study the standards proposed with a view to determining their probable efficiency and to discovering whether they are compatible with other requirements; (2) the bringing together of contradictory requirements as regards specifications for test conditions: selection of speeds, types of safety fence, compatibility between different vehicle masses in the event of an accident, compatibility between cars and pedestrians. Urgent research should be conducted in the field of anthropometric dummies and in the classification of injuries and variation in these criteria according to the groups of people exposed to risk. /TRRL/
