CHAPTER 39: INTEGRATION OF BICYCLES AND PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN BASEL, SWITZERLAND. FROM THE GREENING OF URBAN TRANSPORT, EDITION 2.

In Basel, Switzerland the integration of public transport and the bicycle has already reached a high standard. Some measures are of model character, such as the transformation of car lanes into combined bike/bus lanes and the transport of bicycles inside buses and streete cars. An environment-friendly transport system also should include the following: bicycle service stations at main train stations (as in the Netherlands) in order to prevent bike theft; the reduction of negative impacts of motor-car traffic (noise, exhaust pollution, land use and accidents); and campaigns to encourage more people to use bicycles.
