THE DESIGN AND LOCATION OF CAR-FREE HOUSING

TransPlan is engaged in on-going research into the development of car-free residential estates and this paper summarises findings of the work over the six years to date. Topics covered include cars and people; development of the car-free concept; case studies of traffic free estates in Sweden, Germany, Oxford Brookes University, Cambridge, Edinburgh and Camden (London UK); location and design; potential barriers to acceptance of the car-free concept.
