COMMENTS ON USE OF PERFORMANCE MONITORING FOR UNDERGROUND WORKS
COMMENTAIRES SUR L'UTILISATION DE L'AUSCULTATION DANS LES TRAVAUX SOUTERRAINS
This paper discusses the importance of properly defining the scope of a monitoring program and how necessary it is that this is well understood by all parties involved. It also raises questions about our ability to foresee an impeding failure based on monitoring results. The points made are illustrated by the collapse of a tunnel in Norway.
