TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE COMMUTER TAX BENEFIT
This article explores the ways a part of the Transportation Efficiency Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21), the Commuter Tax Benefit, can help employees pay for commuting costs, help boost transit revenue and ridership, and help both employers and employees save money through tax deductions. For public transit industry, the program's biggest benefit is in increased ridership and increased transit pass sales. The article includes some success stories describing how some systems have promoted the Commuter Tax Benefit to their advantage.
