A SURVEY OF MOTORWAY FENCING IN ENGLAND

A survey and laboratory examination of 12-15 year old motorway fencing has provided evidence that the department of the environment's specification (specification for road and bridge works) has not always been effectively implemented in the past, but those fence posts which are of the correct timbers and have been properly processed should last for another thirty or forty years. It is recommended that the specification should not be relaxed, but rather that its provisions should be rigidly adhered to; and that training courses should be maintained so that those concerned are kept aware of the problems involved in providing permanent fencing.(a) /TRRL/
