SAFE MOBILITY FOR LIFE

Senior citizens drive more today than ever before. And in the not-too distant future, they will be driving even more. The impact of increasing numbers of seniors behind the wheel is likely to be negative, but the prospect of giving up a drivers license is intolerable to many elders. The only answer is a viable alternative. The article recognizes that our society is not yet prepared for the increased numbers and proportions of elderly drivers forecasted; additional public and private sector responses will be necessary to provide for the safe mobility of senior citizens, including new kinds of vehicles, new designs for roadways and new forms of transportation services. Improving mobility choices with a combination of individual responsibility and social responsibility is the recommended goal to aim for.
