THE IMPACT OF A MOTORWAY DURING THE CONSTRUCTION PHASE

This paper provides an engineering slant to environmental studies. It covers criteria that can be adopted in evaluating the impacts dealt with during the construction phase of a highway. The following are considered: breakdown of the alignment in trunks and lots; types and location of job sites; utilization of materials from cuts and tunnels; recycling of discarded materials; job site roads; and contract problems. The last part of the paper deals with new techniques developed for the quantification of the impacts.
