INTEGRATION PROJECT (PHASE 1) ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMICS IN THE TRANSPORT SECTOR. TOWARDS A CLEANER TRANSPORT

INTEGRATIEPROJECT (FASE 1) MILIEU EN ECONOMIE IN DE TRANSPORTSECTOR. OP WEG NAAR EEN SCHONER TRANSPORT

The Dutch road haulage industry, united in the Dutch Transport and Logistics and the Royal Dutch Transport Association, supported by the Centre for Energy Conservation and Environmental Technology, has proposed plans to create an effective environmental policy for the industry. The fact that these two organizations do so of their own volition instead of waiting for legalisation or governments' proposal, is unique. For the first time, an overall view is given on ecologically sound (cleaner) transport. In connection with it, great care has been taken to develop a set of measures that will give shape to this vision and thus realize the Second national Environmental Policy Plan (NMP2) targets. For nitrogen oxides (NOx), the target (reduction of emissions by 75% relative to 1986) can easily be realized before the year 2010. As for carbon dioxides (CO2), it will be possible to realize the target (reduction by 10% relative to 1986) to a large extent, but the final stages of the intended reduction will require a lot of extra effort by all parties involved. The costs of the various environmental measures and their effect on the reduction of NOx and CO2 emissions are calculated. (A) For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 887581.
