REPEATED LOW SPEED IMPACTS WITH UTILITY VEHICLES AND HUMANS

A total of 23 vehicle-to-vehicle impacts, and 2 vehicle-to-barrier impacts, all involving utility type vehicles fitted with rigidly mounted bumper assemblies was performed. A pair of vehicles was selected for each test series with sequential impacts of increasing severity. The speed changes of the struck and striking vehicles were measured. Volunteer test subjects occupied the test vehicles. The aggregate damage displayed by the test vehicles was thought to be useful to the accident reconstructionist for the purpose of quantifying the severity of low speed motor vehicle accidents.
