ON THE STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS OF TANKERS BY THE TRANSFER MATRIX METHOD
Using the transfer matrix method, a computer program has been developed for structural analysis of tankers. The purpose of this paper is to present the theoretical procedure by this method and the results of simulation on the structural strength of several huge tankers by the computer program. The transfer matrix method is considered to be very effective for structural analysis of tankers having a series of similar structural elements. From this simulation, interesting results were obtained with regard to the effect of swash bulkheads on the shear deformation of a wing tank. Also, such changes as the internal forces and deformations in the structural members were observed with increase in the size of ships.
