EXCITING FORCES ON OIL POLLUTION CONTROL BARRIERS IN WAVES AND CURRENTS

The exciting forces and moments on oil pollution control barriers have been relatively poorly understood until recently. This work respresents an effort to determine the nature of these forces and moments through the use of non-dimensional analysis and model testing. Non-dimensional parameters describing the flow phenomena have been derived and tests on flat plate model barrier sections have been conducted in a specially designed precision wave tank. The experimental results obtained have indicated the importance of the non-linear interaction of wave and current derived excitations on oil pollution control barriers.
