A literature survey is presented which attempts to summarize the available information on laboratory compaction of unbound aggregates, and the major influences are reviewed and interpreted. The literature survey covers information on field compaction devices, aggregate compaction in the Field, the parameters affects by compaction, and laboratory investigations. Impact compaction, static compaction, kneading compaction, and gyratory compaction are detailed, and other compaction processes are reviewed. Dry density, degration, porosity and void ration are discussed in detail as well as uniformity, strength, permeability, sample size, particular orientation, compaction model, has been and existing laboratory compaction techniques are considered.
