SAN FRANCISCO MUNICIPAL RAILWAY ADVANCED TRAIN CONTROL SYSTEM PROJECT UPDATE
Alcatel Transport Automation is implementing a major signaling system upgrade for San Francisco MUNI. When completed MUNI's Advanced Train Control System (ATCC) will dramatically increase the operating capacity of MUNI's subway metro operation and will make full use of the recently completed MMT facility, providing through service from West Portal to the surface MMX extension. This significant capacity improvement project for the City and County of San Francisco has been made possible by the benefits and features of Communication Based Train Control (CBTC). This paper revisits the background behind MUNI's leading CBTC application and provides an overview of Alcatel's solution for the system upgrade. A summary of the plan for project completion is provided.
