PERSONALIZING PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION THROUGH INFORMATION
Historically, the flexibility, demand responsiveness, and privacy provided by single occupant vehicles have been difficult at best for public transportation modes (air, rail, transit, paratransit, and rideshare) to replicate. To be more competitive in today's transportation marketplace, these modal options must beccome "personalized". A personalized public transportation system will integrate transportation modes into a seamless intermodal system that maximizes the user throughpuut with the accessibility, connectivity, and flexibility of today's private automobile. Traveler information will be the foundation for this transformation. The paper presents a scenario for the future of personalized public transit service.
