THE WORLD IS STILL A PEDESTRIAN TERRITORY

Four aspects, which are of importance for the protection of the relatively defenceless road user, the pedestrian, are presented: (1) public opinion, and a change in attitude; (2) technical means for the segregation of traffic, the design of vehicles etc.; (3) legal means; and (4) educational means. The pedestrian should be of paramount importance. In particular the situation in residential areas must be adapted to meet the needs of children, disabled persons and elderly people. /TRRL/
