ELASTOPLASTIC STRESS-STRAIN THEORY FOR COHESIONLESS SOIL - DISCUSSION

Clarification is requested regarding an equation presented by the authors, and comment is made regarding use of torsion shear test results for derivation of basic soil parameters. The point is made that in addition to the thickness, the diameter plays an important part in the determination of the proper specimen dimensions. An idea of how far away one has to be from the plattens to avoid their effects can be obtained by applying equations of thin elastic cylindrical shells.
