SELECTION AND DESIGN OF A SEMISUBMERSIBLE DRILLING VESSEL

This paper shows one approach to the design of offshore floating work platforms. It is an approach that considers the economics as an integral part of every step of the design and engineering process. In addition, the effects of location of operation, environmental conditions, water depths, etc., on hull design and equipment selections are analyzed. Using the method as outlined, the steps in the actual design of a semisubmersible drilling vessel, now under construction, are followed in detail.
