SIMPLE MODEL OF SUBMARINE HOSES IN SINGLE POINT MOORINGS

This Note presents a theoretical study of the loading in the flexible hoses connecting a single buoy mooring to the sea bed. Observation indicates that a weak point in these systems is the point of attachment of the hose to the sea bed manifold. It would be particularly advantageous if the manifold could be angled so that the bending moment at the point of attachment is small. In this treatment the buoy is anchored vertically above the manifold. In practice the buoy can move horizontally but to make the mathematical model tractable the hose is taken to be in equilibrium at each particular sea depth with the buoy remaining vertically above the manifold.
