FLUX-CORE: GOING STRONG IN SHIPBUILDING

Among the innovations introduced in the construction of a liquefied natural gas carrier is the use of a flux-cored MIG wire capable of welding in the vertical and overhead positions. This technique greatly reduces the time required for one-sided welding of deck plates using backing tape. Other innovations include tandem subarc deck welding, automatic flux-core Mig welding of deck and bulkhead stiffeners, and electroslag welding of vertical hull butts.
