ON THE PREDICTION AND STOCHASTIC CONTROL OF SHIP'S MOTION

In this paper, the actual ship's course keeping motion is regarded as a stationary stochastic process and represented by an autoregressive model. The model is identified by the minimum AIC (Akaike's Information Criterion) procedure, proposed by Akaike. Using the fitted model the spectra of a ship's motion is analyzed and the optimal stochastic controllers are designed for the newly introduced criteria. The usefulness of the controllers are shown by digital simulations from various engineering points of view.
