The phenomenon NIMBY (Not In My BackYard) is known from different infrastructural projects of national importance. This paper describes this phenomenon. Some infrastructural projects of local and regional order, in which the NIMBY effect is shown, are described. The consequences of the new local democratic instrument, the referendum, applied to decisions regarding local and regional infrastructure, are considered critically. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 884093.
