LABORATORY TESTS FOR COMPACTED SOILS

ESSAIS DE LABORATOIRE POUR LES SOLS COMPACTES

Natural clayey soils (0/20mm) used in civil engineering and construction contain an important amount of sand and gravel. Special tests have been implemented to obtain the geotechnical and mechanical characteristics of these natural compacted soils. Compaction is evaluated from the static compaction test, which also allows the manufacture of large homogenous cylinders. A global value of suction is obtained from these samples during their drying. Triaxial tests are achieved on the same samples, for different values of suction, measurements of strains are carried out using proximity probes. A tensile test has been adapted from the splitting test. Simple compression and tensile tests have also been adapted to rectangular compressed earth blocks.
