PRESSUREMETER TESTS IN UNSATURATED SOILS
Geotechnical design for unsaturated soils requires an understanding of their fundamental behaviour, and, in particular, the role of suction. However, it is complicated to carry out laboratory tests that take due account of suction, and it is therefore difficult to characterise these soils from laboratory tests alone. This paper discusses a way in which pressuremeter measurements can be made and analysed to provide soil parameters appropriate to the suction existing in the site.
