A NEW FIELD TEST FOR THE 'DEGREE OF COMPACTION'
A new method of field density testing is proposed. Just sufficient soil is excavated from a hole to simultaneously fill a Proctor or CBR mould, using standard compaction. The soil is then recompacted back into the original hole, occupying the same volume as in the mould. The deficit (or surplus) volume remaining after backfilling is measured to indicate immediately how dense or loose the original soil was in comparison with the standard compaction density. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 883023.
