This issue of Current Topics in Transport includes approximately 60 abstracts of some of the published literature (reports, conference papers, books and journal articles) focusing on the design and assessment of a wide range of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) products to assist the public transport traveller find in real time about route choices, fares, timetables and waiting time. Abstracts are included of articles which describe systems already in place, or undergoing development, in the UK (eg Southampton, Birmingham, London, Liverpool), and Europe (eg DRIVE projects such as SCOPE (covering Southampton, Cologne and Piraeus) and QUARTET (covering Athens, Birmingham, Stuttgart and Torino). A smaller number of abstracts are also included on ways to provide management information on passenger use of public transport, for example by the use of smart ticketing systems. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1993 and 1996. Some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
