UNSTRUCT - A FINITE ELEMENT METHOD PROGRAM FOR UNSATURATED SOILS

A computational model based on the Unsaturated Soil Theory Program, UNSTRUCT, permits the stress-strain analysis of soils subjected to matric suction changes. It uses the total stress and matric suction variables in the unsaturated zone and the effective stress in the saturated zone, plane-strain analysis and oedometric or hyperbolic non-linear unsaturated soil constitutive models. Three geotechnical problems are analysed: a double-oedometer laboratory test, a shallow foundation over a collapsible-expansive soil layer subjected to the water level rising and a poorly compacted homogeneous earth dam subjected to the first reservoir filling. The program furnishes results that are in good agreement with the expected for these analysed problems. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 881647.
