AN ELASTO-PLASTIC MODEL FOR COMPACTED SOILS

Based on experimental results obtained on a statically compacted OPN low plasticity silt using an osmotically suction controlled triaxial apparatus (Cui 1993), a constitutive model for compacted soils is presented. The mathematical expression of the yield curve was taken from the work of Yasufuku et al (1991) on dense sands. The formulation was adapted in order to take into account the suction hardening phenomenon. Other features of the model come from the LC model of Alonso et al (1990). In spite of some problems related to the assumption of isotropic elasticity within the elastic domain, triaxial suction controlled tests were modelled, showing satisfactory results.
