STRESS THEORY AND AXIOMATICS AS WELL AS CONSOLIDATION THEORY OF UNSATURATED SOILS

The paper deals with some fundamental problems of unsaturated soil. Firstly, the stress state and the stress state variables are investigated, and a theoretical formula of effective stress is derived. Next, the author merges the primes of rational mechanics and irreversible thermodynamics as well as soil mechanics into an organic whole and proposes an axiomatics for unsaturated soil, and the theoretical system consists of 5 basic laws and 8 constitutive principles. Finally, under the guidance of the axiomatics, a consolidation theory of unsaturated soil is established and its governing equations contain 5 unknowns and 7 parameters, The analytical solution for I-D problem is obtained.
