STUDY OF A NEW APPARATUS FOR SWELLING PRESSURE MEASUREMENT

The swelling pressure determination is essential for defining activating pressure that swelling clay exerts after hydration on structures. A new apparatus capable of measuring the swelling pressures is proposed. These measurements are realised with an annular disk which is fixed to a cylinder by high resistance bolts. This device allows testing sample of various thicknesses (20, 30, and 40 mm) and diameter less than 101.6 mm. After the description of the apparatus, the results of test conducted on marl samples taken from the Chamoise tunnel are presented. (A) For the covering abstract see IRRD 881647.
