STUDY OF A COLLAPSIBLE POROUS SOIL OF BRAZIL

The presence of a layer of collapsible porous soil covering the Federal District of Brazil causes several geotechnical problems in civil works such as foundations and excavations. The collapse of this soil is normally caused by external stress increases, stress state changes, inundation fluid changes and saturation degree increases. This paper presents the physico-chemical characterization of a soil profile with 10 m of depth, localized on the track of the Metro-DF. Double oedometer tests carried out using vertical and horizontal samples show that there is a certain degree of soil anisotropy for samples obtained below 5 m deep, what can be associated to the soil mineralogical variations.
