MACROSCOPIC BEHAVIOR AND MICROSTRUCTURAL PROPERTIES OF A KAOLINITE CLAY UNDER CONTROLLED MECHANICAL AND HYDRAULIC STATE

As the determination of microstructural parameters of clay soils is fundamental to the understanding of mechanisms controlling their behaviour, this paper presents the characterization of pore space from micropore to macropore using two complementary methods: mercury intrusion porosimetry tests and BET method based on gas sorption technique. Experimental results are analyzed relative to the effects of mechanical and hydraulic state on the repartition of pore space parameters in the clay tested.
