PERFORMANCE OF CORROSION PROTECTION SYSTEMS FOR REINFORCED CONCRETE EXPOSED TO MARINE CONDITIONS OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Two studies on reinforced concrete are underway at the Construction Quality Control and Research Section of Dubai Municipality, UAE. These studies started in December 1991 and are scheduled to continue until 1997. One of these studies is on the effectiveness of rebar coating systems in concrete and the other is on the use of different pore blocking admixtures and a penetrating surface sealer in reinforced concrete and their effectiveness as anti-corrosion materials. The prime objective of using these products in concrete is to reduce permeability of concrete and thus prevent ingress of contaminants into concrete. One-year and two-year results have been published. This paper updates the findings emphasizing the electrochemical testing.
