The United States will retain its greatness into the 21st century through leadership, technology and engineering. The key to quality of life depends on engineering/scientific leadership and technological innovation. Because discoveries/innovations and their expanded and improved applications are now more dramatic, leaders must undersand and manage technological change to help the nation be globally competitive. History clearly reveals the need for its leaders to prepare for tremendous and accelerated change, especially in a technological and global age. Engineers must be the future leaders, better educated in the broader issues affected by technology without compromising their technical competence. Engineers and scientists will lead, participate in, and guide interdisciplinary teams and be the decisionmakers in business and government in the 21st century.
