RECENT RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENTS IN THE FIELD OF RIDING COMFORT EVALUATION

Improvement of riding comfort is a key to improve railway passengers' amenity. But, there are few systematic studies done about riding comfort, because this concept is equivocal and not easy to quantify. The purpose of this review is to survey present research status on riding comfort evaluation in Japan and to identify the problems in this field. Earlier some factors were identified which influence riding comfort. Here we take up several methodological problems from a human-scientific approach, which are important for the future research, such as description of vibrational characteristics, measurement of human response, stance vis-a-vis internationalization.
