ITS FOR RECREATIONAL TRAVEL: THE CAPE COD STUDY
A new dimension in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) is the application of these technologies to recreational travel. Cape Cod, Massachusetts faces the problem of providing sustainable transportation each summer when hundreds of thousands of visitors converge on the Atlantic Coast vacation spot. This article describes the work undertaken as part of a feasibility study investigating the potential benefits of ITS to recreational areas and more specifically to Cape Cod. Identifying the needs and services for one area can have significance for sites nationwide.
