NEW COMMUTER RAIL SYSTEMS IN THE US AND CANADA

The great success of commuter rail is sweeping North America. This article summarizes the current status of planning for new start systems in many cities in the United States and Canada. New systems in Dallas and Vancouver are set to open during 1995 and 1996. Some of the cities giving consideration to employing commuter rail in their areas: Phoenix, AZ; San Francisco Bay Area, CA; Tampa, FL; Atlanta, GA; Cleveland, OH; Burlington, VT; Seattle, WA; Denver, CO; Wilmington, DE; Jacksonville, FL; Orlando, FL, Kansas City, KS; New Orleans, LA; Santa Fe, NM; Oklahoma City, OK; Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; Nashville, TN; Houston, TX, Salt Lake City, UT; and Milwaukee, WI. A list of contacts in the areas considering commuter rail operations is included.
