THE IRCA: ITS OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
In 1885 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the railways in Belgium, the Government of Belgium held a scientific congress in Brussels the aim of which was to "seek improvements to the construction and operation of railways". The success of this event led to the founding of the International Railway Congress Association (IRCA) and the creation of a Permanent Committee in charge of preparing the program of future congresses. This article gives information on the objectives, activities, membership, and governing bodies of the IRCA.
