AASHTO ACCREDITATION FOR BITUMINOUS MATERIALS TESTING LABORATORIES
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) operates an accreditation program for laboratories testing bituminous materials which uses the laboratory inspection and proficiency sample programs provided by the AASHTO Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL). This paper describes the scope, objective, and current status of the AASHTO Accreditation Program (AAP) and explains what a laboratory has to do to become accredited. It also identifies the benefits of the program and makes recommendations for expediting the accreditation process.
