COMPARISON OF THE THIN FILM OVEN TEST AND THE ROLLING THIN FILM OVEN TEST (WITH DISCUSSION AND CLOSURE)

The Thin Film Oven Test (TFOT) and the Rolling Thin Film Oven Test (RTFOT) are two common aging tests for asphalt cement. Both tests are intended to simulate hot-mix plant aging. Most published reports suggest that the TFOT and RTFOT tests are approximately equivalent, and there is a common assumption that the tests can be used interchangeably. The results in this paper challenge this assumption.
