APPLICATIONS OF ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES IN TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING. PROCEEDINGS OF THE 4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE, CAPRI, ITALY, JUNE 27-30, 1995

This international conference addressed the challenges and opportunities faced by the transportation engineering profession as if prepares to enter the twenty-first century. While these challenges cover a wide spectrum including increasing congestion, continuing problems with safety and environmental degradation, and acute budget constraints, technological innovations offer opportunities to address these problems. Major advances in the fields of automation, information systems and telecommunications have the potential of opening new horizons in transportation engineering by developing new products and methods while making substantial improvements in cost savings and productivity. The papers are extended abstracts summarizing the work and ideas presented at the conference.
