THE EFFECTIVENESS AND PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF SIMULATORS AS TOOLS FOR TRAINING AND EXAMINING SEAFARERS

This article describes the findings of a research project to investigate the effectiveness of marine simulators. The project had three objectives: 1) to assess the effectiveness of simulators as training tools having regard to the quality of replication they provide; 2) to recommend the extent to which such training can substitute for work experience; and 3) to make observations on the extent to which such apparatus could be used to assess competence for qualification purposes.
