RESEARCH ON THE MECHANICAL PERFORMANCE FOR WELDED JOINTS OF SHIP'S GUNNEL FILLET WELDING

Mechanical models of a finite element stress analysis method of full and incomplete penetration welded joints of a gunnel are established. The elasto-plastic stress of the gunnel is calculated by a plane-strain finite element method and a three dimensional finite element method. The influence of length, width and shape of non- penetrated cracking on stress concentration at the weld root non- penetrated portion is studies. By using a grouping comparison fatigue test method, the full penetrated and incomplete penetrated welded joints fatigue performances are studies. For the welded joint of a gunnel which a thickness of 10mm-30mm, small incomplete penetration welded joint can take the place of fully penetrated joints. This will simplify the shipbuilding technology and is more economical.
